Vessels - Sept 2016

with Barbara Barnett

Barbara first showed us an array of her own vessels which emphasised the many ways a vessel can be constructed. Methods of strengthening and stiffening a vessel were discussed before we got down to the (slightly messy) business of experimenting with the adhesive technique that she demonstrated.

While our creations were drying, she showed us some embellishing ideas that included paper moulding and piecing scrap fabrics to make 'tiles' to adorn vessels or other textile projects. Following on from Glen Hall's workshop 2 years ago on 3D sculptural forms, she demonstrated the use of paper as an aid to explore structural opportunities for a vessel, which could then be used as a pattern.
